Catanauan Quezon

The Municipality of Catanauan (Filipino: Bayan ng Catanauan) is a first class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 65,705.

The existence of Catanauan as a pueblo (town) was first recorded in the map of Father Pedro Murillo dated on 1734. The petitio dated 1685 of Bishop Andres Gonzales of Nueva Caceres, Naga City requesting the king of Spain to have Masbater and the Pueblo of Catanauan assigned to Recollect Order was reflective of the early creation of Catanauan. The recognized foundation year of the Municipality was 1713 called as NABATASAN.

In the late 18th and 19th century, there were frequent Moro raids. These occurrences prompted the people to construct two small stone forts or watch towers (MAGKATANAWAN) mounted with artillery. Santa Maria watch tower was located at Lot 21 psc-2 near the present wharf is located. Castillo watch tower stood at the intersection of present Rizal and Boncan Street. Hence, the name CATANAUAN was so derived.

Catanauan's historical heritage "Boling boling Festival 2009" was featured live on Feb 23rd Umagang Kay Ganda (Beautiful Morning), a morning show airing on ABS-CBN.

Umagang Kay Ganda anchor Winne Cordero was in Catanauan and had a live interview with Ms. Malou Baticulon on Uraro Cookies, Mrs. Apura and Mrs. Cadiz regarding facts on Boling-boling Festival and a message from Mayor RamonOrfanel.

The program also featured Catanauan products including wood/bamboo furnitures, agricultual produce, herbal products, uraro cookies, house accessories and banana chips. There was also a short special coverage in a fish sanctuary project under-going at Barangay Ajos which is headed by Mr. Gabriel Tan. The project, if becomes successful, would help the barangay fishermen because they would be able to catch 10-50kgs of maya-maya,lapu-lapu, talimutok and other fishes in the area. Mr. Gabriel Tan is hoping that the project could become a model one in town.

This year's theme of Boling-boling Festival is "Tuklasin sa pusod ng Bondoc Peninsula, Isang Bayan, Isang Kultura, Isang Musika.Watch Catanauan at Umagang Kay Ganda: * Take note that it is only part of the whole program, so please set the playing time to the following to directly access the Catanauan live coverage.
